The book, Rosa, by Nikki Giovanni, tells the story of Rosa Parks, a seamstress, who lived in the segregated south where the custom was that buses had different sections to separate African Americans from white people. First, Rosa's supervisor let her out of work early, so she boarded the bus and sat in the neutral section. Then, James Blake, the bus driver, bellowed at Rosa to give up her seat, but she quickly refused. Finally, the police were called and Rosa was arrested. As a result of Rosa's courage, the NAACP joined together to boycott the buses in protest until the Supreme Court ruled that this segregation was illegal.
